We don’t go to the Free State (province in South Africa) regularly and less so to Kroonstad but recently the perfect occasion arose for us to visit this Free State city. There was a motorcycle gathering organised by the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) and being dedicated members of that ministry and passionate bikers we simply had to ride to Kroonstad.
To arrange for accommodation we were both fortunate and privileged to have a night at the Arcadia Guest House sponsored by dear friends of ours. We immediately jumped on the internet to Google the guest house and I must commend them for a well laid out site that’s up to date.
Riding from Pretoria (capital of South Africa) we got onto the N1 freeway and rode towards Bloemfontein.
After approximately 220 kilometres we took the Kroonstad off-ramp on the N1 freeway and rode about 9 kilometres through the Kroonstad city centre before arriving at a dirt road. Traveling about one kilometre on the hard and bumpy gravel road we finally arrived at the Arcadia Guest House that seemed like an oasis after spending two and a half hours on the motorbike. I am not familiar with Kroonstad but I won’t be surprised if this guest house is known as the” jewel of Kroonstad”. Arriving there we were instantly impressed by the good security, cleanliness and friendly staff that welcomed and served us with a smile. Our room was clean and had a fresh look and smell to it, though some might find it a bit clinical we thought that it was laid out. A comfortable bed with clean and warm linen ensured that we had a good night’s rest.
Our room was equipped with a double bed, bed lamps, 2 seater couch, television, shower, bath, kettle and complementary coffee and tea, soap and moisturiser.
The next morning we enjoyed a mouth-watering breakfast that is included in the price (R700 per couple). The breakfast had a self-service buffet set-up with all food well prepared, tables perfectly set with the aroma of freshly ground coffee grabbing you by the nostrils.
We had a pleasant experience at the Arcadia Guest House and will most definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a secure and proper venue to pack off at for a night or two.
